Would the Smell of This Make You Buy Lottery Tickets?

Those of us in advertising can get carried away thinking we have subliminal message superiority over others. Case in point is believing bacon-scented scratch-off tickets are going to make you buy more of them. Come on! So, best of luck to the New Hampshire Lottery Commission. This week they released their first scratch-n-sniff "I Heart Bacon" tickets.

The grand prize is $1,000. The commission's executive director says players "will think it's time for Saturday morning breakfast." Uh-huh. Promotions include driving a "bacon truck," handing out free applewood smoked bacon samples and tickets at various major shopping areas and venues.

That's expecting a lot of cents from scents on an idea that makes no sense. nhlottery.com
