If you're looking for a way to feel safer out there, a new product might be of interest to you. But there may be some governmental intervention calling for a federal investigation first.

The company is called Ideal Conceal. One of the new products that they'd like to get on the market later this year is a pistol that looks like a cellphone. It's a double barreled .380 caliber, with hammerless construction for more safety. You can see more photos on their site, but think Transformer with a kick.  The list price is $395.

But U.S. Senator Charles Schumer of New York says there should be a federal investigation before a gun like that is available to consumers. The senator wants the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate Ideal Conceal and what it calls a "defensive weapon."

Just be careful that you don't accidentally try to make a call on it.     DB
