Thursday at about 5:00 p.m. Missoula County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over a vehicle driven by Angie Ann Dobson, 38, and charged with her fourth count of driving under the influence, as well as a new statute recently passed by the 2013 legislature, criminal child endangerment.

Missoula Deputy County Attorney Shaun Donovan said on Friday that the vehicle Ms. Dobson was driving was stolen out of Lake County.

“The women who was driving, Angie Dobson presented an Arizona drivers license,” Donovan said. “She had four children in the car with her, all under 14 years of age. As officers looked deeper into the situation, they discovered that Ms. Dobson had three prior DUI convictions in Arizona, and she had a suspended drivers license.”

Donovan said that Ms. Dobson had told authorities she had been smoking methamphetamine the night before.

“She was arrested and taken to the Missoula County Sheriff’s Department and run through a drug recognition evaluation by a DRE expert,” Donovan said. “It was his opinion that Ms. Dobson was on some sort of stimulant, consistent with methamphetamine. So, she has been charged with DUI, driving without a license as well as four counts of criminal child endangerment.”

Donovan described the new statute.

“The statute just became effective a few weeks ago, which says that if you purposely, knowingly or even negligently place a child in danger of death or serious bodily injury, including having them in your vehicle while you are driving drunk, then that’s a 10-year felony. The child endangerment charges alone carry a 10-year prison term and a $50,000 fine, and she has been charged with four counts.”

She appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Friday afternoon. and was remanded to the jail on $25,000 bond.
