A 22 year-old woman was arrested early Wednesday evening after allegedly driving under the influence and crashing her vehicle at the intersection of Russell and Brooks.

Police department public information officer Travis Welsh said the accident occurred at about 6:50 p.m.

"When officers arrived on the scene they observed the vehicle high-centered on the median, and they also observed that a light pole had been sheared off and was down," Welsh said. "They made contact with the female driver and began a DUI investigation. The female was then arrested and taken to jail for DUI and for refusing to take a breathalyzer test."

Welsh said no other persons or vehicles were damaged in the accident. She was charged with misdemeanor DUI, and was seen in municipal court on Thursday morning.
