Old man winter is making an early visit to the mountains of western Montana.

Forecaster Luke Robinson with the National Weather Service office in Missoula said early Wednesday morning, September 25, that there are winter storm warnings and watches stretching from Lost Trail Pass to Glacier Park and all the way to Phillipsburg and into Butte.

"Currently, we have a winter weather warning for the mountains around Glacier Park, and for southwestern Montana we have a winter storm warning for the Butte area including Georgetown Lake to Phillipsburg," Robinson said. "We're expecting to have six inches of snow in Butte, while the mountain passes could receive up to a foot. We also have a winter weather warning for Lost Trail Pass, where we're looking for about a foot of snow there, as well."

Robinson said Lookout Pass will receive an inch or two of snow from this system, while the valleys will receive moisture in the form of rain.
