I think this competes with zombies, vampires and a wicked witch convention as a pretty solid reason. The town of Aviat in the northern Canadian territory of Nunavit is banning outside trick-or-treating on Halloween this year due to.......polar bears. With less ice on the western edge of Hudson Bay, the bears are getting a bit closer to Aviat (population 2,300) during their annual migration. In fact it's become sort of a polar bear-ian bypass route, so city officials figure it would be best to make an event out of trick-or-treating, with haunted house, face painting and lots of candy in the community hall. One official quipped that a bad costume idea would be to go dressed as a seal. Good one, dude. DB
