Just in case you don't get close enough to Santa and his sleigh, we can help solve a mystery for you. Because our expert science team knows it has been bugging you for years!

Forget about that famous red nose for a minute. Associated Press tells us that a professor at prestigious Dartmouth College wrote an essay inspired by his 4-year-old daughter's question.

He reports that scientists in Great Britain have discovered that unlike most mammals, reindeer can see utraviolet light. That way a reindeer can potentially spot polar bears and wolves against a snowy background. When hit by light, a reindeer's eyes would appear to be deep blue, kind of like humans get red eye when illuminated by a camera flash.

So there you have it, Christmas lovers. All these years, Rudolph not only guided Santa with a red nose, he accessorized with UV-sensitive eyes, too! Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!  DB
