On Valentine's Day, 42 year-old Jeffrey Woods was arrested at a residence in East Missoula and charged with assault on a minor, aggravated assault and partner of family member assault, after allegedly choking his two sons during an argument.

At Woods' appearance in Missoula Justice Court on Wednesday, Deputy Missoula County Attorney Amber Henning asked Judge Marie Anderson that Woods be held on $50,000 bail.

"The defendant is alleged to have strangled his son and threatened to kill him," Henning began. "He also strangled and pushed down another son. This defendant has a significant and violent history. He has four different counts of assault on a minor, PMFA and assault with a weapon at different times, though they were pleaded down."

Henning also asked Judge Anderson for several restrictions on Woods' behavior should he be released on bond.

"If he posts bond, we are asking that he be placed on GPS monitoring through his probation officer, and that he be tested daily for drugs and alcohol," she said. "We are also asking that he have no contact with the two victims and to be restrained from the residence in East Missoula where the incident occurred."

Felony assault on a minor carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and, or a $50,000 fine. Aggravated assault carries a maximum 20 years term and a $50,000 fine, and for a third partner or family member assault, the maximum is five years and up to a $50,000 fine.

Judge Anderson set bail at $50,000. Woods' next court appearance will be March 1.
