The University of Montana will be welcoming new students to campus the week of August 24 to September 2 with a special week of activities.

Melissa Neidigh, associate director of operations at UM Residence Life said campus and community volunteers will be helping students get established with Move-In services.

"We're going to have what we're calling the Welcome Week on campus, and that covers from August 24th through September 2nd," Neidigh said. "We're starting it off with having our staff and any community volunteers help new students move into the residence halls. It's a nice way for them and their families to meet people on campus and find out where everything is at."

Neidigh said volunteers will receive gifts and a free meal.

"Volunteers will receive a Move-In crew tee shirt and a free meal at the UM Food Zoo," she said. "On Thursday of that week there will be the Great Griz Encounter at Downtown Tonight, and we'll also be playing bingo here in Turner Hall. On Friday, we'll be showing an outdoor movie, and then on Saturday, we're organizing shopping trips to help students get what they need for their dorm rooms."

But, there's one more event that will bring new students together...the Silent Disco.

"On Saturday, we're going to have the Silent Disco," Neidigh continued. "That's where everybody wears headphones so they can all hear the music and dance without any amplified music, so people are just listening to headphones and dancing."
