Like most of you, my heart goes out to kids who have to deal with these kinds of challenges. And when an incident like this happens, there is probably never an easy way to resolve it.

A woman in Portland, Oregon, feels that United Airlines overreacted when they diverted a flight and had her family removed from the plane after the United flight crew had difficulty finding their autistic 15-year-old daughter something to eat.

Donna Beegle says her daughter Juliette can be a picky eater and sometimes lashes out when she doesn't get her way. But she is calling for more training for airline attendants when having to deal with autistic kids. For their part, United says the crew did what it could to accommodate Juliet, but felt the situation was too disruptive to continue the flight.

Awkward moments all the way around. And I'm grateful there is greater awareness and support for autism.   DB
