A two vehicle accident between Missoula and Lolo just before 5:00 p.m. on Monday slowed rush hour traffic for over an hour on the always busy Highway 93 South.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Phil Smart said the accident occurred near the trailer court at 6000 Highway 93.

"A southbound vehicle turned left in front a northbound vehicle," Smart said. "It failed to yield the right of way and was struck. There were injuries to the people in the left turning vehicle who were not wearing their seat belts. One was ejected, and the other crawled out to the ejected passenger. Both were transported to St. Patrick Hospital, where their injuries were not disclosed. The single person in the northbound vehicle was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, he didn't need medical attention at all."

Smart said although traffic was never officially blocked in either lane, vehicles were crawling along on the way to Lolo for over an hour. The wreckage was finally cleared just before 6:00 p.m. and traffic was flowing smoothly.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and it is not known if either speed or alcohol played a part in the crash.
