Recently a 20-pound carp ran for city council in Ann Arbor Michigan, but was unsuccessful in clinching the win. It seems that this large fishy fellow was seeking to win by write in votes. He first gained notoriety when preservation workers at a local pond caught him vandalizing vegetation. He was quickly relocated to Huron River just a short distance away. After his move, the carp announced his intention to swim for office via his twitter account @TwentyPoundCarp.

To me this hilariously fishy politician represented exactly how effective the public thinks human politicians are. This whole situation said to me that a fish appears to be just as good a candidate, and can get just as much done, as any politician out there today. I have to say that it is hard for me to argue with this, considering the recent government shutdown.

This scaly candidate was refreshingly honest about himself, calling himself a “Bottom feeder.” How nice it is to finally have a politician who is transparent? Perhaps some of our representatives in congress could learn a thing or two from him.

I don’t know if he was affiliated with one party or the other, but does it really matter? It seems that every politician does things that are fishy, no matter which party they represent.

What do you think? Would you have voted for a 20-pound fish over a donkey or an elephant? Do you think the fish could have done just as good a job as the pachyderm or the ass? Who knows?
