The best hotel in the world, according to Travel + Leisure magazine, is not in New York City or Paris, but is in fact the Triple Creek Ranch in Darby, Montana.

In the 19th annual edition of the magazine's reader poll, Triple Creek Ranch received a score of 97 points, which actually puts the resort ahead of the Four Seasons, and the Mandarin Oriental. Co-owners Barbara and Craig Barrett said the results of the poll are a delightful surprise, although not unexpected, considering all the resort has to offer its guests.

"The Triple Creek Ranch has been hosting guests for over 25 years, and has been rated in the top 10 or top 20, or even top two, for many of the past several years, but to named number one seems like a lot bigger jump," Barbara Barrett said. "Travel + Leisure is probably the seminal publication in the field. It is a world-wide publication and has been doing these rankings for 19 years."

Barrett said the fact is that Montanans may take the beautiful mountain scenery and all the available outdoor recreation for granted, but not the resort's guests.

"Hands down, the reality is, in the world, this is one of the most beautiful places for grandeur and for people who love the outdoors and breathing the fresh air and enjoying the mountains and trees and wildlife," Barrett said. "We've got a group of fly-fishermen and fisher-women out there right now, along with hikers and horseback riders enjoying and seeing this country by foot. We've got people coming in from all over the world, most often through Missoula, in order to experience it for themselves."

Co-owner Craig Barrett said the resort is comparable in price to metropolitan hotels, but offers much more with one inclusive price.

"We're competitive at the high-end, we're not a low-end resort," Mr. Barrett said. "We do include our five-star chef's gourmet meals, drinks, the house wines  they're all inclusive. We don't nickel-and-dime our guests at all, we give them all the on-ranch activities in one inclusive price. It is indeed a high-end, adults-only resort, but with all that in mind, we are very competitive in price with other resorts. The charges start in the range of $995 per night per couple all-inclusive."

Triple Creek Ranch is located on West Fork Road in Darby.
