As you may have noticed, I end all of my blogs with a tag line that proudly proclaims that I am the mother of four boys. I absolutely love being the mother of four boys. I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

However, I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I do wonder every now and then what it would be like to have a daughter. Thankfully, I have some close friends who have daughters and they let me borrow one every now and then to get my girl fix.

If you’re not the lone female swimming in a sea of boys, then you just can’t understand the need to shop at Bath and Body Works, Claire’s and Victoria’s Secret. I’m lucky to make it to each of these stores once in a year. I’m usually stuck shopping at Sportman’s Warehouse, Sports Authority or Universal Athletics.

Some days it feels like my house is swimming in testosterone. If you are a parent who isn’t lucky enough to have more than one son, then you are really missing out. There is just something magical that happens when brothers are together. If you want a glimpse into what it’s like to have boys, this video does a perfect job of portraying it.

I can’t even count the number of times a situation like this has occurred between my sons. It doesn’t seem to matter what the reason is, the answer for boys always seems to be violence towards each other. It makes sense to them in some weird way. I’ve given up on trying to understand it, but I am a girl after all.

Joy Larson is a mother of four boys, graduate of the University of Montana, animal lover and writer.
