Nate Montana was spotted on the UM campus yesterday attending his first classes of the semester. Nate Montana left Notre Dame to play at the University of Montana.

Grizzlies athletic director Jim O'Day confirmed Monday night in an e-mail that Montana had been admitted to the school in Missoula.

Montana, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Fighting Irish great Joe Montana, played in three games for the Fighting Irish as a junior last season. He was 9 for 18 for 116 yards with an interception.

It became apparent he was destined to be buried on the depth chart at Notre Dame.

Dayne Crist, who started nine games before a knee injury ended his season, will be back for his senior season in 2011. Tommy Rees, who started the final four games in his freshman season after Crist was injured, will also return.

Notre Dame also added a highly touted quarterback recruit in Everett Golson of South Carolina.

Because Montana is transferring from an FBS school to an FCS school, he's eligible to play immediately.
