The National Weather Service reported on Sunday morning, February 9, that the perfect combination of temperature and moisture met at about midnight, and dumped from five to 13 inches of snow on Western Montana.
For many northwest Montanans, the 2013-14 winter hasn't felt like much of a winter at all. Although there haven't been a lot of record-setting warm temperatures, things on average have been warmer than most past years.
A winter weather advisory for the Missoula and Bitterroot valleys will virtually assure the area a white Christmas, as three to five inches of snow are expected between Friday afternoon December 20 and Saturday morning, December 21.
