This is the last week for hunters to venture afield to try and put some meat in the freezer.  It’s also the last week for you to make a guess in the World Famous Dead Elk contest.

My husband and 12-year-old have been walking all over the hills west of Missoula looking for a buck. The past few weeks of constant searching only to turn up nothing was really getting to my preteen. This is the first year he is old enough to hunt.

This could be the time to head out into the woods if you’re a hunter.

This past weekend I spent many hours taking my gun for a walk. I know to some it may seem like a waste of time, but he had been a really good boy and was just begging me to take him for a walk in the woods.

They called 911 and said their friend was shot. The story was that some Oklahoma men were out hunting in the woods in Catoosa OK.

The general rifle season opened on Saturday, October 26, and although hunters went into the hills in droves, game was scarce for the first weekend.

The popular Bass Creek recreation area will be reopened to the public on Friday, November 1, by the Stevensville Ranger District. The area has been closed since May for tree thinning operations.

We’re into Phase 2 of the Dead Elk contest on KYSS FM. Our winner on Phase 1 was James French from out by Plains. Talk about lucky. He’s all set to head out later this week for a 15 day hunt in the Bob Marshall Wilderness.  His son got an elk opening weekend so the freezer is getting fuller...

As hunters head into the hills on the first weekend of the general hunting season, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials are reminding them that safety and courtesy are the keys to any successful hunt.
