Authorities say a skier is missing after being swept away by a large avalanche near Bigfork in northwestern Montana. Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said Wednesday night that crews were still trying to get to the remote area near Twin Lakes in the Jewel Basin Hiking Area.

January 3, 2012 Weather and snow conditions have combined to create some very hazardous situations in the Northern Rockies. In just a little over a week four people have died from avalanches. Two near Cooke City and two more in the Flint Range near Philipsburgh.
