The National Weather Service has announced that Sunday brought a record snowfall for Missoula, and freezing rain and snow are in the forecast for the remainder of the week.

Meteorologist Mike Johnson said the record for Sunday, February 9, was shattered by nearly a full inch of snow.

"We did have a record snowfall for Sunday,'Johnson said. "We had six-point-one inches and the old record was five-point-two, set back in 1966. There's almost an inch above the old record.

Johnson said forecasters are now concerned about freezing rain on top of wet snow and how it will create hazardous driving conditions.

"I think we'll see areas of freezing rain in the Missoula valley up and down the I-90 corridor," Johnson said. "We'll see that chance of freezing rain as temperatures modify between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning."
