Maybe what's chewing up the road from underneath needs holy help from up above.

At least one man of the cloth figures it's worth a try, going so far as to sprinkle holy water in the devilish divots.

This came to us from Associated Press near Madrid, Spain, where Father Luis Roldan Patino has given up hope that his remote parish is going to get any help from the government fixing the dreadful potholes on the road to his church. So he celebrated Mass Sunday right on the road, splashed holy water on the potholes and marked the really bad ones with wooden crosses to alert drivers of the dangers.

Father likens it to when we pray for rain, we can just as easily pray for pothole repair. He says authorities are blind to the situation and he and his parishioners feel totally abandoned.

So if you are frustrated with a similar problem on your street, I guess it couldn't hurt. And it won't violate any separation of church and state laws, either, so pray away!   DB
