In Montana if we have an occasional snow day, no big deal. Just return to school the next day and make it up later. Maybe a little plowing, make sure the roof isn't holding too much snow, etc. Well, that probably wouldn't be the case if the school had to close for a lava day. That's the fear at an elementary school on the big island of Hawaii. The Hawaii Department of Education is building an alternate school on a different site that could handle up to 500 students and faculty members. For the past month, scientists have been warning about the approaching lava from the Kilauea volcano. Yeah, I think I'd want a "Plan B" for my kid in that situation.
