Could a Book Change You?

As an aspiring author, I recently attended a writer’s conference. I went with a friend and local author, Angela Breidenbach, as she was a presenter at this conference. Being a tag along, I was able to attend the lunch for the presenters which included publishers, agents, writers and speakers. I was seated at a table with my local author friend, an author from Seattle James L. Rubart, a professional speaker Rebecca Stuhlmiller and a very famous publisher John Van Diest. I was very excited, to say the least and had to pinch myself to make sure I was awake. Just as the lunch was ending, the speaker turned to the Seattle-based author and with tears in her eyes told him that his book had changed her daughter’s life.

I was amazed at the impact that a book could have on someone, and also the impact it could have on someone who hadn’t even read it. The book that caused such a stir of emotion is called “Rooms.” It is about a young software tycoon, Micah, who receives a home off the Oregon coast from his long lost uncle. Strange things happen in the house and people in the town tell Micah the house is spiritual. Micah discovers that the house isn’t just spiritual, but it is a physical manifestation of his soul.

I haven’t read the book yet, but am excited to. The book received a four star rating on and has great reviews. Just a warning to some: this book falls under the speculative fiction category and is somewhat comparable to William P. Young’s “The Shack.”

Joy Larson is a mother of four boys, graduate of The University of Montana, animal lover and writer.
