About nine miles farther into Idaho from Jerry Johnson Hot Springs is the Weir Creek Hot Springs, along US 12.

Last year, the Jerry Johnson area was damaged by flooding. That hot springs has recovered and is open this winter.

However, the road to nearby Weir Creek Hot Springs has been closed, due to heavy snow.

The alert from the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest noted dangerous driving conditions, including access to the parking area. There are problems with the vault toilet at the hot springs, too. Road conditions have prevented pumping of the toilet.

The closure includes Weir Creek trailhead, Weir Creek Trail and Weir Creek Hot Springs, until further notice. The parking area is at Milepost 142 on US 93 west of Lolo Pass in Idaho.

Officials are recommending those who need that rustic outdoors hot springs experience go to Jerry Johnson Hot Springs at Milepost 151, or in the other direction, try Stanley Hot Springs about 20 miles from Weir Creek, also along US 12.

If you need more information, call the Kooskia Ranger Station at 208 926-4274 or Lolo Pass Visitor Center at 208-942-3113. The Idaho foreset officials will notify the public of any changes at their website.
