Firefighters are keeping a wary on on the sky as a red flag warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the area near where the Lolo Creek Complex has already burned over 9,000 acres since Sunday.

Forecaster Jeff Kitzmiller said on Thursday, that the red flag warnings were issued for the Bitterroot and southwest Montana late Wednesday night and continued into Thursday. For the Lolo and Missoula area, the threat of storms will begin around midnight.

"Overnight we're expecting an area of thunderstorms to come through, so the next red flag warning actually doesn't start till midnight," Kitzmiller said. "That one has the threat of more lightning and storms that are not so wet. We're also worried about those storms producing gusty and erratic winds. Those red flag warnings go all the way through Friday."
