In a letter sent to KGVO Radio, Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman is advising voters in the Bitterroot to continue the current restrictions on medical marijuana, because of the negative effects produced when the 2004 Citizens Initiative was first passed.

Sheriff Hoffman says the incidence of theft, assault and even homicide was much greater during the years when medical marijuana providers were allowed to grow pot for a nearly unlimited clientele. He also decried the ease with which almost anyone could obtain a medical marijuana card.

Hoffman advises voters to approve the resolution that would retain the strict control of the drug in Montana.
