Taking control of your diabetes, a San Diego based non-profit organization, partnering with Providence Western Montana, will bring its national diabetes conference and health fair to the Hilton Garden Inn Missoula this Saturday.

Providence spokeswoman Jennifer Troupe said people dealing with diabetes should make a special point of attending the event.

"This group comes to Missoula every two to three years," Troupe said. "It's a full day of empowerment and education about how to take care of your diabetes," Troupe said. "For anyone who is interested in diabetes, we'll have different parts of the conference for folks just with Type One, or for families or kids or others living with Type Two diabetes."

Registration is $45 per person for the event at the Hilton.

In addition, on Sunday, Troupe said Providence is presenting another special event to benefit diabetics.

"On Sunday, we have the Tour de Missoula Walk, Hike and Ride, and that starts at Caras Park at 9:30 a.m." she said. "It's an event to raise awareness and money to help those afflicted with diabetes in western Montana. This is a disease that is growing in proportion, it's taking lives and affecting many peoples' quality of life."

On-site registration is $50, with half going to diabetes kid’s camp and half to support people living with diabetes in Montana.
