Preparations Coming Together for Sir Paul McCartney Concert [YouTube]

The process of turning Washington Grizzly football stadium into a world-class concert venue fit for Sir Paul McCartney is already underway.

Executive Director of the Adams Center Brad Murphy said the physical changes necessary for the stadium to host the Tuesday, August 5 concert began this week.

“Fencing went up on Monday, and the field cover should be completed this afternoon,” Murphy said. “Trucks arrived last night carrying extra equipment that are now being moved in and the big trucks will roll in on Thursday for the loading of the steel. They’ll work through Sunday, and then the production company will deliver Sir Paul’s equipment on Monday morning.”

Murphy said there will be a festival atmosphere the day of the concert, and that concert-goers are encouraged to come early.

“We’ll have a festival-type area on the north side of the stadium, and that will open at 5 p.m.” Murphy said. “We’re really encouraging people to show up early to this show because of the traffic in trying to get 25,000 people into Washington Grizzly can be a challenge. We’ve got shuttles coming in and out of the campus from a mile to a mile and a half away from the stadium from places like downtown, Ogren Park and South Campus, and those shuttles will start running early in the day.”

Murphy also emphasized the fact that security will be very tight inside the stadium when the gates officially open at 6 p.m. for the concert, which starts at 8 p.m.

“There’ll be no bags, no backpacks, no strollers, no portable seating, though seat backs will be available to rent,” he said. “The only thing you can bring into the stadium is an empty plastic water bottle with no lid, and that’s just for security purposes. There will be food and alcohol vendors outside the stadium before the concert, so there’ll be plenty to eat and drink before the show.”

Murphy said there’s no need for opening acts because Sir Paul plans to put on a show that will last from two and a half to three hours.

There are still some very good seats for sale, in that a good number of tickets have been returned, and they are available in almost all price ranges, so Murphy encourages those interested in the once-in-a-lifetime show to contact the Adams Center ticket office for details.

As to when and where Sir Paul will be arriving and staying in Missoula, Murphy said smiling, “I have no idea”.
