Today is national POW-MIA Recognition DayWhile it's not a federal public holiday here in the United States, it is a national day of observance to pay tribute to the American men and women who never returned home from combat or have been prisoners of war.  It is also a day to recognize all service members who have defended American lives and liberties.

We observe this day each year on the third Friday of September.
