Pelicans Helping Save Western Lake From Bucket Biologists

We have dealt with jerks like these in various bodies of water in Montana over the years. And this case in Colorado got so out of hand that it took some hungry feathered friends to save the day.

In a lake near Boulder, Colorado, someone apparently dumped goldfish a few years ago. Since then, they had so overrun the lake that the ecosystem was being threatened. Until the pelicans showed up! And they just love the little goldies!

Yep, even though the state contemplated shocking the non-native species out of the water, or maybe even draining the lake, pelicans have discovered the goldfish and have been feasting on them by the thousands. In fact, biologists have only been able to find four goldfish in the lake this week.

That's worth the trade-off of what I'm sure is a lot of pelican poop!  DB
