Missoula County Oversized Bonfire Ban
The Missoula City-County Air Pollution Control Program went through a rule change this past Monday.; any bonfire over 2 feet in diameter will now require a permit.
County commissioner Michelle Landquist, who voted against the proposal, said it would be difficult to enforce. City councilmen Dick Haines and Adam Hertz opposed the measure and questioned how people could dispose of yard waste. Hertz also wondered what would happen to campers with bonfires. Officials responded that if property owners had more than one acre they could burn larger fires, “for fire reduction purposes.”
With the beginning of Open Burning Season March 1, and camping at favorite campgrounds getting here before we know it, it could be an interesting first season.
