Veteran movie and TV actor J. K. Simmons has had quite a year.

He just won a Golden Globe Award as best Supporting Actor last week for his role in the film 'Whiplash', and this week received a nomination for an Academy Award for the same role.

Simmons, whose late parents Don and Pat were deeply involved in the Missoula cultural world, often visited his alma mater, where he graduated in the late 70's. In 2011, he was named one of the outstanding alumni to be recognized at the Homecoming football game in Washington Grizzly Stadium.

KGVO News had the pleasure and privilege of interviewing Simmons, who walked us through the start of his career at the Missoula Children's Theater, to the Bigfork Playhouse, and then on to stardom in Hollywood.
