With so many voices in the Missoula community speaking out against the relocation of the Missoula College to the present UM Golf Course, at least one out-of-town visitor is speaking out.

Dori Whitford is the cross-country coach at Mead High School in Spokane, Washington. She has written a letter to the Montana Board of Regents listing the reasons for her opposition to the placement of the proposed college at the South Campus location.

Dori Whitford Letter

Whitford writes that she, along with dozens of other high-school cross-country teams gather in Missoula for the annual invitational race, and that not being able to utilize the golf course for the race would be a huge drawback for the visiting teams. Whitford cites the economic impact of so many visitors to the city over that weekend…dozens of teams, hundreds of hotel rooms, restaurant meals, shopping downtown and at Southgate Mall…all would be adversely affected by the loss of the golf course for the cross country meet.

Whitford says many of her runners have been so taken with the picturesque locale, that they have decided to choose the University of Montana for their continuing education.

The letter (see above) has been sent to the Montana Board of Regents, but Whitford says she has not yet received a reply.
