Monday morning's commute on Highway 93 South between Missoula and Lolo was delayed for several hours when a logging truck overturned, spilling its load near Bird Lane.

Highway Patrol Trooper Jake Parks said the incident occurred at about 6:00 a.m. when the rear trailer of the logging truck came uncoupled.

"A logging truck was pulling out onto Highway 93 off Bird Lane and had a failure in the coupling device between the truck and the trailer," Parks said. "The trailer then became independent, overturned and spilled the load onto the roadway."

Parks said the trailer was fully loaded at the time.

"It's a full load, and because the logs were smaller, there were a lot of logs on the trailer, so it was a substantial load that spilled. The truck that had the spill is a self-loading log truck, so they have a crane that they load their trucks with. He was able to grab the logs on the road and move them to the shoulder, then we called another log truck to come to the scene and load all the spilled logs onto the truck."

Parks said the northbound lanes were blocked for about two hours, but traffic was routed down the center strip in single file to keep vehicles moving. Parks said no one was injured in the incident.
