Multi-Vehicle Crash in Downtown Missoula Sends One to Hospital

A multi-vehicle crash in downtown Missoula during the morning commute on Wednesday stalled traffic and sent one individual to the hospital. Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“At about 7:23 a.m., officers were dispatched to the report of an injury crash at the intersection of West Front Street and North Orange Street,” Welsh said. “When the officers arrived, they found four vehicles involved. It seemed to be the result of a right angle collision as one vehicle traveling eastbound on Front had the collision with another vehicle traveling southbound on Orange Street.”

Police believe that the need for hospitalization for one of the drivers may have occurred before the crash even began.

“One person was transported to the hospital, as a result of the crash, however we are investigating the possibility that this may have been a medical incident prior to the crash,” Welsh said. “In this particular collision, officers on the scene told me that the streets were certainly wet, but they had no other adverse conditions that would have contributed. There was no ice.”

Police are still investigating the accident to determine a cause, but it appears that the third and fourth vehicles were secondary accidents that occurred after the initial collision as those vehicles were coming to rest.
