A mini-baby boom has begun in the Buffalo, New York, area. Maybe a blizzard baby boom is a better term. Regardless, the maternity wards are hopping.

You recall the relentless snowstorms that buried Buffalo this past winter, right? That includes the 7 feet of snow during the week before Thanksgiving last November. Conveniently located in the heart of it all is Mercy Hospital, which expects to deliver about 25 per cent more babies than usual during the month of August.

"Nowhere to go and nothing to do" is how one couple described that November week, as they welcomed a new little girl to their family. They were delighted she came along a bit early to avoid the big rush.

Congrats, all you new moms and dads!   DB
