Montana Senator Steve Daines on Monday introduced a bill that would redirect federal funds from Planned Parenthood to other eligible healthcare providers, called ‘The Protect Funding For Women’s Health Care Act.

At the same time, Daines introduced a measure to scrap the Department of Health and Human Services’ new rule to amend regulations implementing the Title X Family Planning Program.

“We must fight for those that are unable to fight for themselves,” Daines said. “We will maintain funding for women’s health care and redirect those funds towards community health clinics that provide comprehensive care instead of an organization that traffics human baby parts.”

The legislation would prohibit federal funding of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America or any of its affiliate organizations. In addition, it would protect federal funding for services for women, including cervical and breast cancer screenings, pre-and post natal care, and would also ensure that there would be no reduction in overall funding to support women’s health.

The legislation is sponsored by Republican U.S. Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa.
