On the heels (paws?) of a story about a bear wandering the halls at Bozeman High School comes this. And the critter style points for method of entry on this one are off the charts!

A woman in Asheville, North Carolina enters her daughter's apartment and finds a bear, that had opened an unlocked door. The woman said the bear was chowing down on some pet food. Upon arrival, authorities started pounding on the ceiling, which was enough to scare the bear out of the apartment. It left unharmed, and a broken flowerpot and window covering was the extent of the damage.

A North Carolina Wildlife Resources spokesman says the bear likely smelled the dog food just inside the unlocked door and was able to get in by figuring out how to pull down on the door handle!

We can only conclude that the Asheville bear and the Bozeman bear are the same bear. It went to school, learned how to open doors and decided to ply its trade in North Carolina.  DB
