Over the past week, the price of gas in Montana has jumped nearly eight cents to reach an average of $3.09 per gallon.

Petroleum analyst Greg Laskoski says the trend of rising prices is something that's happening all over the U.S. "It's reflecting what we've seen nationwide, the national average has gone up 6 cents a gallon in the past week. Certainly many other markets have seen far more aggressive increases. We've seen  certain markets with increases anywhere from ten to twenty cents per gallon."

Greg Laskoski:

A price increase on Canadian crude is driving prices in the Rocky Mountain west. Also, there is a bit of a supply crunch as suppliers empty out their winter fuel mix in preparation for the summer mix which must be ready for retail by May 1.

That summer mix also happens to be more expensive, a fact that will likely contribute to rising prices through the month of April.

Compared to the rest of the country, Montana has very little to complain about. The price of a gallon of gas here is 50 cents cheaper than the national average.
