They're big. They're orange. They're ugly! In the world of fly fishing in Montana, these are some of the salad days! My buddy John at Rock Creek Fisherman's Mercantile tells us that the first salmon fly hatch of the season is underway on Rock Creek! They've been spotted all over the bushes on the first stretch of the creek. However, water is still running high and fast and you are encouraged to fish from the banks. The fish are close to the banks as are the salmon flies, so hopefully that's a win/win for you. Stay in the lower section for now, but these bugs will climb the creek quickly. You can get the salmon fly patterns and advice you need from our pals at Rock Creek Fisherman's Merc. rcmerc.com  And may you yell, "Fish on!" many times in these next few weeks. DB
