The Montana Board of Regents held a conference call on Tuesday morning with officials at the University of Montana, and approved three major expenditures.

Deputy Commissioner of Higher Education Kevin McRae said the Regents first approved the contract for the new Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services, which included a recruitment bonus of $70,000.

"The board approved the hire Dr. Thomas Crady," McRae said. "The Board of Regents has some tools in the toolbox when it comes to recruiting and retaining people in the university system  and this was a national search. They determined that Dr. Crady was by far and away the most qualified person to come in and provide leadership for enrollment growth, and this is a one-time, non-salary incentive."

McRae said the board also approved two other expenditures related to the athletic department.

"The board approved the installation of the playing surface at Washington Grizzly Stadium before this fall, and also the employment contract for men's basketball coach Travis DeCuire, so the good news is, we now have a three year agreement between coach and university in place."
