Michael Burke, 31, was arrested just after midnight Saturday after allegedly robbing the Walgreen's Drug Store on Brooks at gunpoint and fleeing from police.

Sergeant Rick Stevenson with the Missoula Police Department said Saturday morning, that the robbery took place at 8:48 p.m. Friday, and an officer patrolling nearby saw the suspect leave the store carrying a plastic bag. The officer then initiated a traffic stop, but the suspect fled in his vehicle.

Stevenson said the suspect was apprehended north of Missoula, after Lake County sheriff's deputies placed stop-sticks on Highway 93 North, and the vehicle went into a ditch near mile marker 14.

Jason Johnson with the Missoula County Sheriff's Department wrote in a news release that "the suspect ran into a wooded area after ditching the clothes he was wearing during the robbery". "At 12:30 a.m. Saturday," Johnson writes, "Burke was located hiding in a wooded area and arrested by city officers and county deputies including the Missoula County Special Response Team and a city K-9 unit."

Burke is in the Missoula County Jail facing numerous felony charges. He will appear in Missoula Justice Court on Monday.
