Just a friendly reminder that while July has been wetter than normal for western Montana, it hardly means we are in the clear. Let's let Jordan Koppen from the DNRC tell it to you in his own words:

STAGE I RESTRICTIONS STILL IN EFFECT

July 27, 2015, 3:00 PM- Missoula, Montana – Interagency wildland fire officials with the Northern Rockies Coordinating Group (NRCG) have decided to keep Stage I Fire Restrictions in effect within the Missoula Restrictions Area.

Despite wet and cooler conditions, Missoula Area Restrictions Zone will remain in Stage I Restrictions. Warm, dry days are forecasted for the immediate future, which will cause vegetation to dry out and cure rapidly. Unattended campfires continue to be a problem.  Under Stage I Restrictions, campfires can only be lit at specific sites listed by each agency, a list of these locations can be found at firerestrictions.us.

We encourage the public to be extremely cautious while operating equipment that can produce sparks. Chainsaws and lawn mowers have already caused wildfires this year. Travelers are advised to inspect and keep up on trailer maintenance. Be cautious where you park, dried out vegetation can easily catch fire from a hot vehicle. Visit keepgreen.org

We are currently in the middle of a long and hot wildfire season. We thank the public and continue to urge you to keep doing your part to avoid human caused fires.
