Missoula Police are investigating what appears to be an assault that was reported early Wednesday morning.

Public Information Officer Travis Welsh said the call came in just after 8:00 a.m.

"At about 8:19 a.m. a call came in to 9-1-1 from a resident on Pioneer Court within the University Villages stating that a young woman had come to their door reporting that she had been the victim of an assault," Welsh said. "She suffered minor injuries, and she was taken to the hospital for evaluation and at this point, she is speaking with detectives so that we can find out anything she can tell us that could point us in the right direction as far as who might be responsible and where it occurred."

Welsh said the young woman appeared to be of high school age, and it is not currently known if she was sexually assaulted. He said the investigation is ongoing.

On October 18, UM issued a notice that a non-stranger sexual assault had occurred in one of the residence halls on campus. There is no information connecting that report with the assault that occurred on Wednesday.
