My buddy Jeff Griffin, vice president and general manager of our Missoula Osprey Baseball team, says it's about time! :-)

The first time I saw this guy play back in 1999, I knew he was going to have a tremendous career in professional baseball, and I'd say 14 years in the Major Leagues is a pretty decent validation of that. And his earliest accomplishments will be acknowledged where his professional career started to bloom 18 years ago.

Lyle Overbay, who spent 14 years in the Majors, will have his Missoula Osprey jersey number 35 retired at a ceremony at the Osprey game on Friday, July 28. And YES, Lyle will be attending at Ogren Park Allegiance Field, which is a big-time upgrade from 1999, that first year the Osprey were in Missoula and had to play their home games at the Missoula American Legion baseball field.

But in spite of those humble digs, the Osprey went on to win a Pioneer League title that year, led by Overbay's 101 runs batted in, which is still a Pioneer League record!

Congratulations to Lyle. I'm sure a lot of fans since the beginning will be on hand for the event. Gates open at 6:30, game time 7:05.
