Just before 8 a.m. on Monday, Missoula Police received a report about a damaged display cabinet at a grocery store in the 800 block of West Broadway. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says some cigarettes and food were taken from the location.

“48-year-old Michael Okeefe was cited for theft and criminal mischief,” Welsh said. “At about 9:53 a.m., 911 received a call from a business owner in the 500 block of North Higgins who said that when he arrived in the morning he found some damage to his storefront and observed Michael Okeefe walking out of his store carrying two musical instruments.”

It was reported that the suspect allegedly took saxophones from the store. According to Welsh, the man’s crime spree continued later that morning.

“The suspect saw the complainant standing there,” Welsh said. “The complainant reported that the suspect threw a reed cap at him and then continued to walk away. At 11:06 a.m., it was reported that Mr. Okeefe had taken another musical instrument from a different location in the 200 block of West Broadway.”

Okeefe visited City Hall with some of the stolen items and he was eventually arrested. He is facing seven charges including felony theft and burglary.
