Shane Ontario Creager, 45, was arrested early Wednesday morning May 28, and charged with assault with a weapon and partner or family member assault.

According to court documents, Creager's girlfriend of 14 years returned home to find a smashed coffee table in the yard. When she questioned him, Creager allegedly grabbed her hair, pulled her to the ground and physically assaulted her. She was able to free herself and run to a neighbor's house where she called 9-1-1.

Court records also indicate that when she returned to the home, trying to find her cell phone, Creager allegedly began stabbing her with a small knife. She fought her way out and ran next door again.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Andrew Paul said Creager has been charged with assault with a weapon, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of partner or family member assault.

"He is accused of causing a small stab wound on his girlfriend's arm, as well as causing other physical injuries," Paul said. "He's been accused of assault with a weapon and misdemeanor partner or family member assault, first offense. The assault with a weapon charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years."

Creager appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Wednesday afternoon via video from the Missoula County Jail, where bail was set at $25,000.
