Nathan Lee Calvert of Missoula stood before District Judge Kim Christopher on Tuesday morning, September 17, in Thompson Falls, and admitted that he brutally stabbed Doug Morigeau to death, and cut Cheryl Morigeau's throat while under the influence of drugs.

Calvert admitted to the judge that he stabbed Morigeau more than 50 times, after breaking into the couple's home in Dixon in December of 2012. According to court documents, Calvert agreed to change his plea to guilty, but mentally ill, to charges of deliberate homicide, attempted deliberate homicide, aggravated burglary and robbery, all of which are felonies.

Calvert will be evaluated at the Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs, as part of the pre-sentence investigation.

The court has ordered the sentence to be pronounced on November 5 at 10 a.m. Calvert, 32, faces up to 280 years in the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge.
