To celebrate its 60th birthday, Missoula Federal Credit Union is awarding $60,000 in grants to Missoula non-profit organizations.

MFCU board member Leslie Halligan, a Missoula District Judge, said the $60,000 will be split into three awards of $20,000 each.

"The board has selected seven non-profits to be available to receive these grants," Halligan said. "We are asking our members to then vote and select three of the seven for the $20,000 grants."

The seven non-profits chosen to vie for the grants are Garden City Harvest, Zootown Arts Community Center, Flagship, CASA of Missoula, The Missoula Food Bank, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Missoula, and the Five Valleys Land Trust.

Halligan said the seven were selected out of dozens of suggestions submitted by credit union members in a recent survey.

"The voting will take place beginning today," she said. "It will continue right up to our annual meeting. There are some short video vignettes promoting each of the seven finalists on our website. We hope the exposure to our members will benefit the organizations, even if they don't receive the grant."
