Partner or Family Member Assault (PFMA) cases are common in Missoula, but last weekend saw a lot of felony PFMA charges involving a similar element. According to Missoula Police Detective Sgt. Scott Pastian, near midnight on Saturday, June 24, Police were called out to a residence on Stoddard.

"Patrol officers responded to the 1800 block of Stoddard to the report of a disturbance and upon arrival and further investigation they arrested 28-year-old Justin Corbine for Aggravated Assault and Partner/Family Member Assault, the important element here was the report of a strangulation" Pastian said.

Then on Sunday, another man was charged with a number of crimes stemming from a strikingly similar situation.

"They arrested 40-year-old Matthew Boland for PFMA, Aggravated Assault and Tampering with a Communication Device, in this case, the victim reported that the person arrested had strangled her and that when she attempted to call 911, her cell phone was grabbed out of her hand," Pastian said.

Of course, the link between both of these cases is strangulation, a form of assault that usually ends up receiving a felony charge in Missoula because of the risk of permanent bodily injury or death that can result.
