Raising awareness of domestic and sexual violence in Ravalli County is the goal of "Walk A Mile in Her Shoes" this Friday, October 13, in Hamilton.

SAFE, Supporters of Abuse-Free Environments, is sponsoring the unique event where men put on high-heeled shoes and walk from downtown Hamilton to City Hall on South Second Street.

Many sizes of special large-sized shoes will be available for participants when the walk begins at 6 p.m. at the corner of 3rd and Main. You don't have to wear the shoes to participate in the event, but if you do, please sign up some supporters who'll pledge funds for your efforts.

Registration is $25 for adult walks and $15 for youth walkers. Those under 12 can walk for free. Register online at SAFE's website or at 5:30 p.m. Friday before the walk.

Sonya Bitterman of SAFE said other events this month include White Ribbon Week October 22 to October 28 and the Report to the Community luncheon at Hamilton City Hall from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on October 27. The 18th annual Courage Award will be presented to an individual's commitment to nonviolence at that luncheon.
